1963 Impala trim tag:

What does a 07E(or O7E) in the top left corner mean?

It's position is below Chevrolet Division, to the right of Detroit Michigan and over Style.

Thanks.

I am looking at a '63 Impala that is suppose to be a original SS with a 409. It has a trim tag that says it was a bench seat car, despite every SS piece of trim that I know of is on it. It has a 350 but the owner says it is a 409 car. Would a 409 engine be listed in the ACC codes? It has a W block fan shroud.

Trim codes did not identify a 409. There are things you can look for but most/all can be added later, if this car has been messed with over the years. If the SS originality is in question, the 409 may be in question too.

Bench = not an SS. You could not get a bench seat in an SS in 1963. And you could not get bucket seats in a regular Impala.

Rickey, can you post a picture of the cowl tag? That will tell the tale as to what's real on the SS side.

I just sent it to your email. I'm afraid it says nothing. I thought I was close to having a actual SS car.

Trim code 874 is for a cloth & vinyl bench seat interior, so that rules out it being a SuperSport.

For '62-'64, you can always go by the Trim code to determine if the car is an SS or not. (as long as the tag is original, and this one is)

The 1847 indicates v8 but, a 409 is unlikely. probably came with a 283 given the bench seat cloth interior.

Here is the info from the Mark S. Allen Chevy Cowl Tags book

07E = July fifth week
63 = 1963
1847 = Impala HT
AT = Atlanta
Trim 874 = Red cloth bench seat
Paint 900 = Tuxedo black

Hope this helps!

All 409s had a ballast resister on the firewall not a resistance wire. Larger fuel line on the hp motors. Pretty sure a partial VIN would be stamped into the right front engine pad. Factory dual exhaust hangers on the frame.
