Years ago, someone posted pictures of them straightening their liftgate with ratchet straps, a wheelbarrow and the hot heat of the sun. I don't think I'll try that, but just curious if member still here, and pictures and comments available.

I'm sure anything can be done with enough creativity.
But I shipped mine to Madmooks and he has a jig to straighten it, then clean up the hinge mounting areas, then reschromed it. Came out just fantastic!.

I hope you don't mind me observing that being located in Sault Saint Marie as you are pretty much precludes the availability of "hot sun" anytime soon (I'm in Grand Marais, Michigan about a 100 miles from you).

I was the guilty party who used the sun and "gentle" tugging to achieve marginal success in correcting the extra bend in the back window frame. Removing the torque bars eliminated the stress which caused the warping. Harvey's lifting mechanism provided enough assistance to raise the unit afterward. Having sold the Nomad 6-8 years ago, I cannot attest to how the redneck engineering helped the situation. I would suggest Madmook as a better route to follow.

My lift gate was straightened by Madmooks and he did a fabulous job. And I took the torsion rods out at the same time so the gate is no longer subject to twisting pressures. It is still in perfect shape after about six years.

Thanks for replying. I most likely will send liftgate away, but remember the pictures, but lost that in PC crash years back.
My car is coming out of storage this summer, for me to start working on it. May play with gate a bit, before sending it away.
If you have any pictures of that process, please post or send to me, my email should be in my profile.
Grand Marais guy; I hpe to drive your way for a visit this summer as well. Be ready!

My thoughts.
Madmooks is not a rocket scientist with limitless resources. But he has spent the time to learn how to do this right, and now has the experience of doing lots of them. And he has a great source to replate them once straightened. In years past there was another guy in SoCal that did a lot of them. Don't hear much about him any more - he may have retired or passed on.
Madmooks also has the correct gas cylinders to replace the torsion bars.
Given what a Nomad is, I would let Madmooks do it and be confident and happy with the results.

I have a gate straightened by Jerry. It was an already done gate he had for someone who didn't pick it up at the Nomad convention. I just gave him mine as a core. This was before Mike started doing them. Jerry was very expensive compared to what I believe Mike charges. My Nomad is still a basket case waiting her turn, so I can't say how well the gate fits. But I'm sure it will fit fine.
