Ok i swapped 4l80e into my truck from a truck with a bad frame that sat for about 3 years and was fine prior to sitting. changed the filter and fluid dropping the pan not a complete flush and fill. when i get on it to downshift sometimes it doesnt want to shift back to OD. is there anything i can do for this short of a rebuild? any additives? 98 k2500

So does everything else in the transmission work normally, with the exception of loosing overdrive after a forced downshift?

I would drive it a little more before condemning the transmission.

- See if it is a hot vs cold issue.

- Also, when OD is no longer available, check carefully to see if all 3 other gears and the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) are working properly.

- Make sure the check engine light is not on, and there are no codes stored for the transmission

Ok may have found an issue fluid level was about 2quarts low. It's not easy checking fluid after pouring fluid in you get 'false' readings and thought it's was about a 1/2 quarts high but no so I will test drive tomorrow and see how it does

it isnt any better and it shifts kind of hard i think i need to get a tank of fuel thru it to give things time to free up from sitting if it gets better i will get let you all know.
