I have a 140amp 10si alternator. Will a 8 gauge wire be enough? I need to order a kit for my 62 impala.

Your alternator will only charge what you car uses. 1 in 1000 cars will ever use 140 amps. Most cars that are pretty loaded (dual fans, high output ignition, A/C, etc.) will only use 90-100 amps. So, unless the car you are building will ever use the full 140 amp capability, you'll be fine, yes.
