I have an 1988 305 TPI Camaro engine, will a pre 1987 edlebrock manifold fit the TPI heads? If so, I will run the carb until I get all the stuff to run the TPI.
I'm putting the engine in an 1953 Chevy, so I will need quiet a few things to set up the TPI.

Thanks in advance, Johnnie.

I believe 87 was the first year for the new type heads, and if that's what you have, an earlier intake will not fit. There are two ways to go: You can get an aftermarket carb manifold that will fit the later heads, or you can swap earlier heads onto your 88 block and use a factory carb manifold.

My time is a lot cheaper than my money, and I already had a set of earlier heads, so I took the latter route. This was about 15 years ago, and I am still running that combo. However, I never had any intention of using the FI because I didn't want to deal with the electronics.

Thanks Ray. There are some 1988 through 1992 or so heads that kept the 1986 back bolt angle. I think I have narrowed it down to the aluminum heads. I know I found at one time some TPI 305 engines, I believe in Camaros. As I have researched it, I have found the info is is iffy to say the least.

My recollection is that the aluminum vette heads used the old bolt angle and the rest used the newer angle. I used a Corvette manifold on my '65 327, and it fit fine. I have also worked with TBI motors, and they all seemed to have the newer bolt angle. I did see one aftermarket manifold that somebody used a grinder on to get the bolts to fit. It didn't look pretty, but I think it worked. I'm sure it can be done properly by a machinist, as the only difference is the bolt angle. Just need to widen the hole and then provide a angled spacer to get the clamping force.

Thanks for the reply. I think you are right on. That's pretty much what I'm seeing everywhere I look.

Thanks, Johnnie
