What is a good price to pay for a average 1966 truck?

if you feel happy with the price and the seller feels good then it is a good price.
a few years back a customer calls and asks how much to redo her dining table. I explained that I would have to see it to give her a price, but see was quite adamant that I could give her a price over the phone. can you ballpark it; high low. I says I can't do it without seeing it. I asked what she did for a living and she said she installed alarm systems. at the time I had an old boatshop for my place of business and I asked her for a price to install an alarm system in my sop and I explained what it was. uhH, I have to see it firrrssst and never heard from her again.
something like what is a good price for a 66 truck!

Like Ron says, it's impossible to give you a straight ball-park price on an "average 1966 truck" because it's so conditional.

Assuming you're buying and not selling here goes:

What options are you looking for? V8, in-line 6, standard trans, column shift, floor shift, automatic, power steering, power brakes, AC, 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton, "Custom Comfort" package, etc.

What style - stepside, fleet side long or short wheel base, cab & frame, flat bed, 2WD, 4WD etc.

As far as average - are you talking about a hot rod, custom street, lowered, lifted, original restored, resto-mod, show truck, rat rod, customised "petina", fixer-upper, etc.? Because there is a big price differential between some of these categories.

What condition are you looking for - pristine daily driver, project truck running/ not running or a parts donor truck.

Where are you located? geographical location is a big factor in determining price.

I saw one the other day on the Facebook ads in Greenville Texas $1500.00 "ran when the parked it 20 years ago"

I saw another one for $25k in Dallas a month ago - a restored daily driver.

Your best bet is to hit the net and see what you can find. But like ron says: don't buy it unless you can look at it in person.

This type of question is too general of a question to answer, at least for me. The cost of an average truck can vary, a lot. It depends on so many factors including the condition of the body, interior, engine etc and most importantly, the seller and what amount of money they're gonna want.
