how do you wire dome light and door switches? Which direction does the dome light base mount? switch towards dash or towards rear of car?

If you have a shop manual, I believe wiring to the dome light is shown...at least how the connections are made. The photo below should answer the question I quoted above.

The dome light powers up from the head light switch.A good pic in the manual,electrical system 12-46 fig 62.Usally a orange wire.
The switch on the dome light grounds [completes] the circuit.
The door switches are also grounding the circuit,usually white wire,back to the switch on the dome light.Also be aware that the bulb in the dome light should have 2 terminals on the base,not grounded to the case/side.
