I took my rear axle assembly (torque tube) to have it sandblasted. I taped up the polished tube end. Thru a miscommunication, the polished tube, isnt so polished anymore...I need to save it. how critical of an issue you think this will be and any suggestions to correct it as much as possible. The vehicle has a powerglide if it matters

Put together a piece at a time....twice.

If GM had as hard a time finding parts as I do they would have been out of business years ago.

Hi Hobbypoor, Was it still fully assembled? Can you post a picture of the area? Abrasive material inside the assembly will be very destructive on bearings and gear mesh surfaces in very short order.
if it's just the housing then it depends on the level of damage and re polishing may get you out of the jamb.

You can also get specialist stainless thin wall repair sleeves for crank snouts etc and this may work also.

The valuable part is the 3.5:1 gear head and you can probably use a second hand housing.

No..it was disassembled and was the bare housing. We cleaned the inside. The damaged part appears to be the polished snout.

Hi Again, then I would try and find out what exact diameter it should be and have a go at re-polishing it using very very fine materials and not too much pressure.

If not then find a stainless sleeve the size needed.

Cheers Kiwi
