Ok. I don’t know what I am doing wrong. I got the Grill Center strip for my 40 from Chevy of the 40. The grill on mine seems to have molding holes down the Center. What I have is a strip with jaggered edges that would seem to push in but it just doesn’t attach and I don’t ant to force. Any assistance will be appreciated

Gary

I had taken mine apart to have my grill rechromed and I do not remember having any trouble putting it back together. Mine did not have any scews in the middle. I know this was not much help, just keep trying things different.

Gary,I have the same problem on my '40 grille. I bought the after-market center strip, but it does not include a stamped metal inner structure with the three bolts attached that go through the holes in the center of the grille. That structure was part of the factory center strip. As far as I have been able to determine, that inner structure is not available anywhere. I've been working on a way to fabricate it. Meanwhile, I just went to the hardware store and bought three stainless button head screws to fill the empty holes. I've got so I kinda like it that way.

The vertical inner brace is a separate carbon steel part. It attaches to the grill. You will have to watch eBay, swap meets, or place a wanted ad on craigslist, if you want to buy one.
