Is it possible to replace the emergency brake rear cable dust boots without removing the crimped on ends of the cable?

I glass beaded the metal cable covers that attached to the brake backing plate,
then slid that part further away from the crimped on end to get the glass out and found several strands
of the cable were broken.
dust shields - $16
new cable w/dust shields - $52
so I ordered the new cable
