Hi and thanks for reading. Long story short I bought a 600 dp off summit and it had a casting defect right at the end of one of the bowl bolt threads. The thing leaks like a sieve. It's going to be a massive pain and cost to send it back to summit for a replacement. I don't think they'll cop the return postage. Does anyone know if there is representation here in Australia so I could bypass summit? I know they'll sort it for me but I dare say I'll be the one paying for return postage.

Have you tried Summit?....I mean if it is defective then it's defective and a return should not be on the consumers dime (more in your case)... a defect that should have been caught by Holley QC....OR try Holley directly and explain the situation. That piece should never have left Holley in the first place.

I guess we'll see how customer service plays out here....

Sorry, but I can't see the defect, or maybe I am looking at it but not recognizing it as a defect. Could you please put an arrow or circle or some other marker on the photo so I will know where to look?

Summit did say they will replace the carb under warranty. But I had to supply them a tracking number for postage. I will get a postage quote first and give them a call. See if they want to cover it. From past experience in posting items to the US from here I'm guessing it could be around $100. I will find out for certain and give summit a call I guess.

Ray the casting defect is in the main body. The bottom fuel bowl bolt just pokes through the casting. Pretty much just leaves a nice hole straight from the bowl.

thank you for clearing that up with the arrows, its just a lot clearer that way than looking at a picture and assuming your looking at the same thing the original post refers too.

Thank you for adding the markers. Now that I know where to look, the defect is quite apparent. I fully agree that you have a legitimate quality control claim and should not have to pay for the return shipping.

Hi 64 Bel, Did you have it direct shipped from Summit. If so it was a US purchase and their rules apply. Generally that means you have to cover the cost of return freight. Which as you say may cost you an extra $100.00.

Other options are to repair the hole with a permanent repair such as an epoxy alloy mix.

However I think you would be wise to send it back unless you are sure that will work and there are no passages affected.

as Bel Air kiwi mentioned, you have a valid request, and I'd more than likely exchange it, but as he also mentioned , a bit of carefully applied J&B WELD would most likely solve the issue faster and cheaply.
I've dealt with similar repairs to casting flaws and J&B weld epoxy is a valid option
(but of course its not the most pleasant, aesthetic option)and its likely to reduce the component re-sale value significantly

Unless the void created actually has comporomised the gasket surface on the carb body, possibly opening up a path between the screw thread area and one of the fuel passages in the body, or metering plate.

Best alternative, but, the biggest hassle to do, is to send it back.

Holley will also tell you if it's not outside of Summit's return policy window, they won't deal with it. They want you to deal with the dealer first if it's still applicable. HOWEVER, I will say that when dealing with Holley customer service after that return window is closed, they are quite helpful. They replaced my intake manifold for no charge when I called them. I had a Holley Sniper for my SBC that wouldn't mate to the block properly. I sent it in, they tested it on one of their engines, saw how atrocious it was, and sent me a brand new Weiand Hi-Ram tunnel ram for free fiddy. (they didn't have any sniper manifolds on hand to ship me)

I contacted Holley. They won't or couldn't send a replacement international. The guy I spoke to said they would send a replacement usually and require pictures or proof the old one was destroyed. But being international he couldn't help.
I got onto summit and struck a deal with some postage reimbursement which I'm happy with. End of the day I can't complain about Summits service.

That's unfortunate that they have that issue internationally. They made the same offer to me (total destruction of the manifold) but I told them I wanted them to have it back to show them the quality control issues. Although smashing it with a 16 lb sledge was more than tempting.

Summit has the best customer service and that is why I always deal with them. They always pay return shipping if it's their mistake or a defective product. I am in the states and don't know how they are with over seas shipping. Shame on Holley for not standing behind it.

yes I have occasionally had SUMMIT screw something up, with an order, like sending all but one item, or rarely send the wrong item, but they do have very good customer service and I've never yet had a problem they failed to correct quickly/
Id also say ROCK AUTO has also had exceptionally good customer service
and Id bet I,ve ordered many thou$ands of dollars of products over the years from both.
