I am planning to have a someone paint my Cushman Scooter with TCP Global - Ivory - Medium, Acrylic Urethane Single Stage Automotive Car Paint, 1 Gallon Kit Item #: RSP AU1201-KIT-M. I want to paint my old M/C trailer with the same paint and do it myself since I will have extra paint. I won't be able to remove a lot of the rusted metal and not sure what primer I can use. Can I get by with Rust-Oleum Rusty Metal Primer (oil base), or do I need Acrylic or epoxy primer.
Any advice would be very much appreciated. Should I also do the vinegar/water prep?

I know you said you'd like to do it yourself...and I'm not sure if you mean "do everything", but if I were doing it and I wanted the finish to look good and last, I would consider having the trailer first sand or media blasted. Then I would apply my old stand-by system of applying PPG 1791/DX1972 self etching wash prime followed by PPG DP90LF epoxy primer. Also since the top coat you will be using is not a PPG product, I would allow the DP90 to completely cure before scuffing for the finish coat. Just the way I'd do it...others may have different methods.
