I have learned on pitfall to a battery in the trunk. I need to check my timing and my starter voltage. I understand I can hook up to my alternator for power but lets just say I want to make a jumper wire to operate a timing light or use my tester all around the car. What size wire should I use for the jumper cable?
thanks,
Charlie

If you're not doing much loading, a #12 will do you fine for just about everything. A 30A fuse at the battery is a good idea to go with it for safety purposes.

You can usually use the red wire on the horn relay for constant power to test equiptment.
