Username Post: ECM Wiring - What are red and purple?        (Topic#345992)

Recently had to replace a starter on our P35 step van and noted that I have two extra wires in line with the fusible link, a red and purple. All three of these wires have had their ends replaced at some point before we got the truck. The red wire was actually tied into the end of the fusible link itself and the purple had an end on it, but the end of the connector has broken off somewhere, so I am not sure if it was indeed on the starter, but the length is right.

What are these wires and what do they do? I can see they lead up to the ECM, but I don't see why they are attached way down by the starter, for the life of me I cannot find anything online. I find diagrams and forums of stereo wiring, but that's something I can do.

I don't want to just go hooking up wires at random if there's a better way to do it.

(yes, I spelled fusible wrong)

Vehicle just for reference:

Just some other info, I've already started cleaning up the ends of the wires, the fusible link had some worn sheathing, so I put some heat-shrink tubing on it, going to get some new wire loom to run the wires through.

Starting to wonder if any of these wires might have something to do with the way it's been running recently, but that's a whole other story.

Purple would go to the S terminal to energize the solenoid.

Red is probably another power wire that needs a fusible link on it.
