Hey guys new to chevy talk here, I searched hi and low on why my engine does this. I'll give you the rundown after the specs..
Late 60s small block .40 over 350 scatt crank,Rods, flat top pistons, comp cam hydro lifters, 12-234-2 cam, I believe. I forget the cam that's in it. Melting HV pump, and a Tbi heads they were shaved and the machine shop said it has about 9.5-10:1 CR. This is my daily driver! Ok? Now to the problem.
I installed a new street fire dizzy that I got from work for a great deal. I'll set the ignition timing to 32 total and run 93 pump gas. It will start, idle,GREAT power. doesn't break up until 6200. When I run it hard the ignition timing will retard it self. The dizzy does not move. I repeat it does not budge. So I keep advanceing until the manifold gets in the way then I got to take it out back it up a tooth and start over. and if you ask how I know it's retarding it self I'm carrying a dial style snap on timing gun with me. My grandfather doesn't want to hear it. I know it's not rocket science but I'm wandering if the mechanical parts of the dizzy are screwed. please get back to me ! Thank all you GearHeads!

Welcome CT. Just for fun? Try another timing lite.
