In process of replacing the 3 speed switch and need to know how many amps they need to carry. I know how they wire but looking through the shop manual I could not find what the 12 volt motors are rated at.
By the way I tried those screw to the bottom of the dash universal illuminated 3 speed heater switches (Classic Parts, ebay, etc) and it fries the little coil on the back within 30 seconds, as it is only rated at 10 amps. I found one through Princess Auto that is rated at 25 amp. I thought I heard that the heater motors are 30 amps? thanks in advance.

I couldn't find any fuse data for the trucks, so I checked cars instead. A 54 car (6 volts) had a 14 amp heater fuse. A 55 car (12 volts) had a 9 amp fuse. If your heater motor is burning up switches, I think the motor may be defective (tight bearings, for example).

Those who choose an automatic transmission want transportation. Those who choose a manual transmission want to drive.

I agree with Ray, your motor bearings may be binding. I don't think the motor could draw 30 amps, since the generator only put out 25 amps for the entire car.
