I am about to shell out big bucks for a 70 Chevelle claimed to have an LS5 motor. The casting is 3999289 and there is a T12 at the rear of the block. Don't have date codes yet. Please help.

If original, it should have a .....512 block. vin on deck pad by alternator should match dash VIN tag under windshield. 512 through '71. a ....289 is '72 or newer, up though '78ish If it is later than '75, it's a truck/suburban motor.
