I have a unusual set-up I bought and need help with cooling issues. I'm posting in camaro forums because front clip and suspension is from a 1978 camaro, not so much the engine. It is a 400 SBC from casting number it is 70-73 possible 4-bolt. It has a serpentine drive, heads,TBI and dist. and ECM that according to ECM code came from a 89 350 "K" LO5. Seller told me heads had steam holes installed. The engine has always ran around 210 when warmed up, which didn't really bother me. I recently due to leak in cab removed heater hoses and plugged holes in motor. Now, what it does is at idle temp stays around 190, running in high gear temp. goes up to 230, if I accelerate so that transmission down shifts temp goes down to 210-215. I'm baffled, please help.

Instead of plugging the heater connections, try running a single hose between the two connection points. Please post again with your results, whether you see any improvement or not.

Those who choose an automatic transmission want transportation. Those who choose a manual transmission want to drive.

I'm glad to hear the hose worked out well for you. Thank you for your feedback.
