Passenger side completed, look like on my car I will have
15 1/4" on each side.
Moving on to finish driver side.
C25 bottle refilled.
Driver side welded in.
Looks better than the passengers side.

Driver side mini tub completed.
And as I said it does look better than the passenger side, why?
Easy part done, although it was a lot of dot 4-5 second welding.
I surprised my self, started out 4 or 5 out of 15 spot welds were terrible, finally 1 out of 15.
Moving car over in the "shop" (2 car garage) to pull rear 10 bolt 8.5 " axle.
This axle is from a 1979 camaro, drum to drum it is 61 3/8".
My guess it to take 2 1/2" from each side, this will bring the outer part of the drums to 56 3/8".
This will center the outer drum flange in the middle of the
15 1/4" between the frame and the fender lip.
So I'm asking is this what I want to concidering the wheels that are out there?
I'm thinking 15x10, 5" back spacing and 305/15/50 tires?
Well?

Well, what pro streeters learned long ago is to buy the wheel tire combo of your dreams first, set them under the car where you want them, then measure the distance between to determine the width of the axle brake assy. you want to use.

Hi,
I did the same thing with my 57 using a 79 Z28 disc brake rear end. However I didn't narrow the rear end, I just used some very offset wheels. My 57 is mini-tubbed and spring pocketed(is that a word?)and I used 15x10 Draglites with 71/2 inches of backspace. That centered the wheel pretty well in the wheelwell for my 325/50/15 Hoosiers. As you can see you could actually get a little bigger tire in there if you squeezed.

Thanks for the pics, they are worth gold.
Finally got what I figured was the hardest part done, a pocket.
First off thanks to several folks on here! Knowledge here is worth that gold.
I have finally got one pocket done and I am current working on the rear hanger part.
Lot of things get you side tracked with this hobby.
Any way here's a pic of the pocket,
I am not related to Chip Foose by a long shot!

Update, finally got the spring hanger welded on top of the frame and the frame notch welded in, need to clean up welds.
Had to remove the gas tank and cut a hole in the trunk floor.
It is looking good, cutting the frame notch I could see the welds had penetrated the frame for the shackle hanger.
Now to move to the passenger side.

There really is more to the story as to simply mini tubbing your car.
What you find is things really don't fit like the instructions say.
Conferring with others is the key to get the project moving.
Does the pocket really fit in a 2 piece frame?
Does the front outer spring hanger need to be removed?
The rear spring shackle part is not really for a 2 piece frame, it must be modified.
A 2 piece frame is not wide enough for the pocket.
The rear notch fits inside the frame but is not wide enough in the back?
Although a 2 piece frame is tapered it is too wide for the notch reinforcement piece in the back.
Do I need to cut 2 holes in the trunk?
Do I need to center the gas tank?
Is welding overhead fun?
What is a roller ball weld?
Is it really that hot?
The you have to ask yourself , "Do I have the guts to start cutting up my car?"
All I can say is I am almost done, is all this worth being able to run 325/15/50's on the back?
damm right it is!

thanks to the folks at WCCW, they will answer any question 3 years after the sale, what more could you ask for.
I can hardly wait to order the 15x10 ET Mags like Ptjsk has on the back of his '55 Nomad.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I took this 1979 10 bolt to the local rear axle boutique and had it narrowed.
Funny thing they asked me several times , "disc or drum?".
It is narrowed to 56" outside of the drums, DRUM TO DRUM, not the axle flanges!
Blasted, primed, painted and some POR15,
its beautiful piece.
Time to install and make measurements for rear wheels and tires.

Congrats - It looks great. That is quite the accomplishment

You are definitely more ambitious than I am. I swapped my original rear for a 70 Camaro 12 bolt posi a few years back. (In my unheated garage @ 5 below zero.) Even in the Summer, I don't think I could convince myself to begin cutting..

TY, TY, TY!
It does take guts to start cutting your car up.
The wheel tub part was not bad, I had made lots of thin sheet metal welds.
The point of no return is cutting off the front spring hanger, the whole time I was thinking "if this don't work, this will get expensive to fix now".
I am not a welder, I finally figured I passed sledge hammer test on thicker material.
I knew welding the pocket in was going to be the make or break on the job.
The rear shakle part was much easier, but I had to cut holes in the trunk floor.
There is still more details to the story, I had been thinking about doing this for years.
I spent more time trying to figure out how to get around the welding than the time to do it, but there was no way around it.
I hate to brag, but geez this thing is tough looking.
I can still say that after having this car since 1980.

Yeah, that really does look cool.

My 255s on 8" wheels look a little puny in comparison.
I think you'll enjoy the heck out of 'em. I know I would.
