Big blocks were offered in Chevys till 1975. Just talking to a friend and he said that in 1st Gen Montes (70-72), big blocks were offered only 1 of those 3 years. True or not? & if so, what year. Thanks.

He's absolutely wrong. The production numbers are available online. 402s and 454s were available all 3 yrs.

The 402 and 454 big blocks were offered in all three years of 70-72. I've owned a couple 71 big block Montes. Here are the production numbers.

He's probably thinking of the first gen SS Montes. They were all 454 and offered for '70 and '71. You could still get a big block in '72, but not an SS.
