Hello,

A buddy of mine has a '63 Nova. He's looking for a set of 4 bolt brake drums and says he can't find any.

1) Are these 4 bolt drums made anymore?
2) Are front and rear different?

Bob

I never realized before now that the 4 lug drums were so difficult to find. A lot of the 62-63 Chevy IIs that are actually being driven (rather than being "shown") have been converted to 5 lug, and this might very well be because of the parts availability issue. The swap is basically a bolt-in, but does involve the replacement of some major components, specifically the rear axle and the front end parts from the spindles out. 64-67 parts are the ones to use for this.

If the 5 lug conversion is more work than you want to take on, one other possibility might be the 4 lug Corvair restorers community. From my parts business days, I recall that SOME Corvair shoes and drums were the same as 62-63 Chevy II. Unlike the Chevy II, the Corvairs are not so easily converted to 5 lug, so there has to be a parts source somewhere. A quick search turned up this one vendor, and there could also be others. I recommend that you measure the critical dimensions on your drums (like the depth or height
and center hole size) and then talk to these guys before you lay down your money.

Those who choose an automatic transmission want transportation. Those who choose a manual transmission want to drive.
