Got all the A/C ductwork installed along with the vents.......the gas pedal also got installed......Ialso got started on installing the fan relays.......just need to get the wiring for the Trinary switch and a couple of A/C wires hooked up....then put the dash back in and get the neutral safety switch adjusted.......my one issue I have is a very slight gas leak from a fitting on the top of the tank.....Darn......need to pull the tank down and see what's going on there.......

Got the Trinary switch and all the A/C wiring finished today........then I moved on to the Fan Relay's.....That open area next to the Battery sure filled up fast......LOL........Done !!!........one of those stupid little things that was a little problem was the Brake Booster Vacuum line......the Power Booster had a hole size larger than most and I couldn't find a Check Valve to fit with the new sizes needed.....so....I made up a adapter and blended the large and small hoses together........Started to put the dash assy in.......I'll finish that up tomorrow and then the last thing (hopefully) to do is to drop the Gas Tank and reseal the pipe thread fittings that leak one drop at a time......Darn.......Gotta fix it....

Pulled the gas tank out today and got the leak fixed (Teflon Tape instead of pipe joint compound......Lesson Learned-AGAIN !!!!!)......Then I finished the Dash install......Started programming the Dakota Digital system and got a few issues........I'll call them tomorrow and their Tech Support will walk me thru the programming sequence........LOL.......Also.......the neutral safety switch is fighting back.........waiting for a call from Shiftworks to resolve that issue.....

Here's a pic of the dash.........(engine off , key on, lights on)Check engine light is on because the O2 Sensors aren't installed yet..........Going for the Exhaust on Monday........

We should all have "beaters" like that.

Nice work as usual Ken.

If going with brand new, off-the-shelf, I could see it get close to that. Auto recycler acquired would be MUCH less for 5.3L and matching 2wd auto trans WITH wiring harness and CPU. CPU will likely need re-flashing after harness has been modified to exclude features that aren't needed anymore. The newer the engine and trans (lower milage), the more you will pay.

I can get a 50,000km 5.3L (truck application) from my pals at a local yard for about $1,500.00 (Canadian).

Yeah think this guy had the dollars..but health issues too. His mates took the old stuff out and kwizz got the restored clean slate to work with. Man I love his expertise..would pay him to apprentice.watch him build a few...and gofast too he is great at metal work..too many ideas..not enough time. Got a local guy who does this stuff..might just give him a call. Peace brother and have a blessed one.

we werent asking for the DIY piece it apart price, the GM crate engine and other stuff from the different specialty manufacturers price.

my swap still cost me close to 10k doing it the cheap way with a use 5.7 ls1. I skimped most reasonable ways.

I've been wondering, and I'm not the only one based on the comments on the video series, how much this restoration cost?

Sorry I couldn't post yesterday.....had some computer issues.........Anyhow......The Exhaust system got finished and the A/C system got charged.......I was so excited to get that "Pile" out of the Garage that I forgot to take a bunch of pictures on the delivery of the car to Keith.....I had Keith keep the Hood at his house so I wouldn't have to worry about scratching it while working on the car, so.....I drove it back to his house without the hood..........(Lot's of honks from the truck drivers along the way as they could see what was powering the car).......LOL..... Gary followed me to give me a ride home.........any how.....we met Keith, Bob and Keith's wife Kathy at the house and delivered the car.......Explained a lot of the features to Keith that are now built into his "Heap".......LOL......Just glad to be able to help out a fellow Car Guy............

Here's a short Video of the drive to Keith's House

Keith, Kathy, and Bob

Gary with the car

All Done......Now I can go home and get the Garage cleaned up.......LOL

The headers are made and fit perfectly...….. I would definitely get U.S. made header bolts as these are very low grade and it's very possible to twist the heads off without any effort and it's a pain to get the broken part out...…. Ask me how I know....LOL

Is the 4l/70 much larger then the 4l/60e? Did the tunnel need any work to get it to fit?

Yah, I bought my shifter from them years ago and they didn't have one then and they still don't. I have also tried OPG and ordered one for a Chevelle console, but it was too narrow. Looks like I'll have to live with it.
