I have 1978 Pontiac Phoenix low milage, original, daily runner, basically a Nova-clone. It has a 305 original engine that runs pretty well except for the carburetor.
I have 2 complete TPI:s laying around. One MAP and one MAF. From a mechanical standpoint, is that a bolt on? At least one of the manifolds seem to have provisions for different bolt angle against the heads.

If your 78 engine has stock heads, the intake with vertical center bolts won't work on them. Try the other manifold and see how it fits.

Those who choose an automatic transmission want transportation. Those who choose a manual transmission want to drive.

Thanks Ray.

Hmm. I really would like to know for sure before I start a teardown

The intake manifold changed the same year the valve covers did. If you have perimeter bolt valve covers, the heads take the early type manifold with conventional bolts. If you have center bolt valve covers, those heads take the vertical bolt intakes. I think the change year was 87.

Thanks, that solves it. Got the "old" type of valve covers. (original)
