When starting my 1996 Monte Carlo LS with the 3.1 liter engine, I get a heavy gas smell coming from the top of the engine. I also notice what looks to be a small amount of gas on top of the engine. Any ideas on what could be leaking gasoline?

if gas is ion the top of the engine, im sure you already know there is a leak somewhere.. se if you can find the' dirt " or fluid trail of where its coming from . it may be the fuel rail as i think the newer cars use them . it should be an all metal line coming off of the fire wall (possibly) but ends up splitting off into each cylinder or it may look like a log ,but one end has what looks like a bike tire valve on one side of it. thats where you check pressure at as a side note.
like i said im not too familiar with the newer engines. its worth a look though ..
