I just replaced the headers on my 1973 Caprice, and I must have tripped something as my GEN and OIL lights stay on while the car is off. It is obviously draining my battery. I tried to jump it and got it to start, however the car stays stuck in park and does not let me switch gears.

On the flip side - when the car is OFF - I can put it in neutral etc.

Any ideas?

My first thought would be check the shift linkage to see if it is hitting or binding.

FIXED:

There was a tear in one of the wires coming from the starter, and as you can see it was touching a ground screw close by



Once I pulled the wire off the screw - everything was back to normal
