Is the Tahoe equipped with halogens, or HID's? Either way the stock headlights should be brutally bright. The halogen setup uses H11's which aren't what you would call dim.

Don't fall for the gimmicky bulbs out there, generally a halogen is a halogen is a halogen. The blue tint on the gimmick bulbs helps them create a whiter-appearing light but actually reduces some of the usable light in the spectrum.

The surprising thing is Sylvania produces their "top of the line" Silverstar Ultra with that stupid blue tint on part of the capsule; I guess they're responding to market demands. I guess you could try them out as at least that's a trusted brand, and they do claim that one to be the best of their offerings.

Im not sure what is in it but they don't seem very bright or at least don't beam out a far distance. Brights are really good .

Sparkywax,

I'm not sure what lights are in the 2015 Tahoe but I have a 2014 GMC Sierra 1500 and the headlights are the worst of any newer vehicle I've ever owned. I've complained to the dealer, who said they were aware of the dim lights and they made an adjustment which did little to help. I googled the question, 2014 GMC headlight problems, and came up with many complaints, at least 50 posts. Some were so upset they were going to get rid of their trucks.
It may be worth your while to check into it.

Pete

2014 Sierra, with projector style headlights:

2015 Tahoe, also appears to have projectors:

It must be this styling change to the projector lights when the problems came in. The designs just prior to this change are pretty damn bright.

If the Tahoe is equipped with halogens, as I said those are the H11's and they're a bright bulb. However, if the projector design is poor, there's not much you can do about that other than get brighter bulbs and hope for the best.

Does it help if you run with the driving lights on?

She says the driving lights must not help. But I need to make sure she does have them on, I've never checked. Do they come on automatic with the auto setting?

What model Tahoe do you have"
LS, LT or LTZ

LTZ have T4F Headlamps, high intensity discharge

LS & LT have T74 Headlamps, dual halogen composite with automatic exterior lamp control and flash-to-pass feature

If you have the LTZ with HID's then there is probably nothing available. I know with my CTS that is the case. And whats more, HID's are usually sealed to prevent tampering.

  • Quote:
The High Intensity Discharge (HID) lighting system operates at a very high voltage. If you try to service any of the system components, you could be seriously injured. Have your dealer/retailer or a qualified technician service them.

Note - GMC Projector headlights are exclusive to the GMC.

The GMC projector lamps are HIR–2 (9012 LL) High/Low-Beam Headlamp

PS-No headlight problems with my 2015 Sierra Denali with projectors built May 2015. There is a service bulletin Circa Jan 2015 that address this concern on 2014/15 Sierras, a new bulb and increased voltage to lights are supposed to correct the complaint.

So you have Halogen bulbs.

From owners manual page 10-35

High-Beam Headlamp (Base and Uplevel)9005 LL
Low-Beam Headlamp (Base) H11 LL

Note-To gain access to the pass side bulbs you will have to remove the air cleaner assembly from the vehicle. It can be a pita. Driver side can be reached easily. BUT never touch the bulb with your fingers, oils from skin will weaken the glass and the bulb may fail. Wear surgical gloves to avoid contaminating the glass surface.

Another tip, avoid all gimmick bulbs made in China or Korea or the crap sold on Ebay, its mostly cheap junk. Buy quality and quality is never cheap.

My truck is an SLE but has no driving lights. I have made a formal complaint to GM. Maybe they will cough up a fix? I'll post if that happens but I'm not holding my breath.

Well I drop it off at the dealer and they said the lights were extremely too low and they adjusted them up.

The sealed beam halogens on my 57 were brighter than either of my 2014 or 2019 Yukons.

So I replaced the halogen high beams and HID low beams of my 2019 Yukon Denali and the halogen high and low beams of my 2014 Yukon SLT all with LEDs. Lots brighter and can see further down the road. I did need to adjust the hight of the aim on the 2019 up a little but the 2014 didn't need adjusting.

My 2015 Silverado LT Z71 had terrible headlights and fog lamps. I replaced the bulbs with LED ones from Amazon. One set was Fahren brand and the other was Alla Lighting, Both sets of bulbs were a great improvement, and not very expensive.

Fahren H11/H9/H8, 60w 10000 lumens Super Bright LED waterproof headlight conversion kit 6500k cool white IP68

Alla Lighting 8000 lumen 5201,5002 LED Switchback Fog Lights

The fog lights are especially great because they have both white and amber LEDs and you can switch colors by pushing your fog lamp switch.

I was not able to copy the links, but you should be able to find them on Amazon. These bulbs may have been updated, because I purchased them about 4 years ago.
