Skooter drivers were notoriously "good sticks". When I was in Viet Nam working on my CH-46A a Scooter landed at our base in Phu Bai (Northern "I" Corps) dead stick from battle damage rec'd on a strike mission in the North. Next Day a Marine C-130 flew in a tem of Mechs that split the litle bird in half and proceeded to change out the engine and make repairs. They stripped it of all they could to enable it to take off of our fairly short runway, and off he went!
