Hello all, first time on the C7 forum. I'm usually on the 29-41, tri-5 or early Corvettes forums. I won a new Z06 in one of the NCM's raffles back in Nov. However, as you know, there is no such thing as a free lunch and this is no exception. Before I could pick up the car, I would have had to fork over nearly $22,500 to the IRS as a 'gambling tax'! On top of that, this will also go on my income tax, and I've heard that it may add up to an additional $10K. I didn't take the car I won because it was an automatic, plus it had some options on it that I would prefer not to have. I know, I've heard it all about how an automatic is faster, but I don't intend to spend much time on a race track and the rest of the time I like to wiggle that stick in the middle of the car. Don't get me wrong, I love racing and I've been autocrossing since 1979, mostly my '69 and currently my '72, but I've also made runs in my '61, '91 ZR-1 and my wife's '67 & 07 Z06, and I will try my hand with the new one also. And, I'm not a drag racer. Drag racing is for fast cars, autocross is for fast drivers.

Anyway, back to the C7. Since I didn't want an automatic, I cashed out, but you take a $20,000 hit by doing so, but also the IRS tax is $5000 less. I ordered my new Z06 last week from my local dealer and he gave me a killer deal, so with the money from the raffle and the difference in the tax, I will end up spending about $34K out of my pocket for my new yellow, 7spd Z06. (part of the difference is I'm not taking the $3000 hit for an automatic) I waited until now to order it because I will take the NCM delivery, and I don't want to drive back from KY to CA in Jan. or Feb., so hoping for an early March date. Haven't gotten the build date yet though. However, in the end, I'm getting a new Z06 for about half price. Can't beat that!

Sorry about being so long winded, but I had to tell you the whole story.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I remember that "give away" but didn't make the connection that is was Ken. I just thought, well that's pretty close. I buy the $100 ones, sometimes the $150. Had no idea the ding you get if you actually "win". I bet everybody that wins is pretty shocked. So much for a free car. I figured there would be some state tax or something, nothing like the reality. Still a pretty good deal if your number's pulled.

I saw that. There will be a drawing for a convertible later this month. The west coast is hot! Better buy your ticket now! Far better odds than powerball.
