My 88 celebrity with a 2.5 iron duke has stripped teeth off the phenolic timing gear, I am at the point where I need to remove the crankshaft belt pulley to go any further,

is the pully bolt normal thread? and how do you hold the pulley solid when trying to remove the bolt?

If you mean normal right hand thread, yes.

Unless its a manual transmission an air impact wrench is your weapon of choice.

Get a tie-down strap, w/a flat nylon strap and a metal hook on the end. Hook it on your frame, wrap it around the pulley, and then pull the loose end tight, you may need to try multiple combinations but it will work.

Sometimes I'll put the hook end on top/outside. and sometimes it is on the bottom/inside.

This afternoon, I torqued my Nissan's pulley to 100# using this method.

This will also work on the fan clutches that screw into the waterpump.

When you use an impact, bad stuff can happen.
