Well. We parked it for the year. I haven't been on here all year because we have been racing all summer and fall. We had an awesome year. We did blow a transmission and that was a big bummer....but its replaced now. We had 390 drag race passes and 13,000 miles on it when it failed. (It has 15,500 now) Chevy said they wouldn't honor the warranty because we "Used it in a manner inconsistent with what it was built for"...but our dealer replaced it once out of goodwill. It's shifting hard again so we are about to take it back to see what's up with that. After that we have a pile of bolt ons to wake it up. It should be just over 1kwhp when we are done.

Stock her best pass was 10.86 at 128. Her best mph was 130. We did a few roll race events too. There she trapped 140. We used her for a few hpde. hubby got her up to 151 and I hung around 135 to 140 as my top speed. That was all I was ever comfortable with. The trans broke on our second hpde weekend.

We met a lot of cool people who loved the car....and a few who were haters for some reason or another. We raced in the IHRA points races all year and a bunch of other events. We also raced at an IHRA National event....

All in all it has been an absolute blast. Some months we were on the road racing and camping in our fifth wheel three weeks then home for a few days then back at it. We have no regrets. Chevy built one hell of a hotrod.

Here are some of the pics from our first year.

We were wondering where you went.

Can you elaborate on the trans failure?

Thanks guys. Yes was a very fun and busy summer. Definitely the summer of a lifetime.

Yep its a very impressive car stock. When it shifts its so smooth....and quick. It was also pretty consistent. But there were a few hickups in competition. Once it launched in 5th gear...and still ran 12.26.

We did hpde in april then waited til Spetember when weather cooled off because we had heard of others having overheating issues with the a8 on the road course. In the morning session on the third day it was hanging up in 4th gear...not shifting up like it was supposed to in drive. I had been shifting using the paddles. In the second session I had (HUbby was in manual mode the whole time so it didn't do it on him but it did it on me and the instructor)the car was hanging up in third and 4th when driving hard. When I would cool down a lap it ran fine and shifted normal. I parked it because it was getting warm and I was frusterated at the shifting. Hubby then tried to take it out for his session and it acted like it had no converter. it wouldn't go....just wound up. He limped it to the paddock area in reverse. Alittle later it would go into forward gear but not for far. We had it towed to chevy. They had it a while then called to say it had metal in the trans fluid. There is no fix for the a8 trans so all they could do is change to a new transmission. They said it would be 6 grand and our warranty was voided because we raced it. I then went into research mode and fou d that there is a known failure in the aluminum housing that holds a couple of the clutches. I'm not sure if ours had that though.I asked for a report when the transmission was taken apart in Bowling Green but haven't heard back. When GM was refusing to pay we had our local performance shop pick the car up. They were going to tear into it and see if they could fix it. Chevy did not want them to get ahold of it. They then agreed to pay for it as a goodwill gesture....once. They didn't even trust the local techs to open it up...all they could do is swap it and send old one back as a sealed unit.

We have 2500 miles on it since the trans replacement. It was shifting hard after the last event. Took it down to chevy this week and turns out it was learning how we shift....and it was thinking we wanted to shift like a racecar...lol

It's been quite the learning experience. These direct injection engines are nice...but can be a pain. With the upgrades it should have much cooler IAT which should help it with keeping its power. We went with a nitrous outlet spray bar setup that will be mounted right in the blower....its 100 to 300extra hp but could get even more being on a supercharged motor. We are also doing E85m headers, pulleys and a meth injection kit. We had a rollbar installed right when we got the car. It was legal to ten flat. Now we have to get it added nto to make a ten point cage. Hoping to run mid to low nines. It cracks me up because when we ordered the car we said "Oh its going to be so fast we won't need to mod it"...lol. Well ten grand in mods later and we are in it to win it...lol No regrets though. We are having the time of our lives. And we have met hundreds of people we might not have met racing a normal chevy...lol I will see if I can figure out how to load a video. I have some cool ones from the onboard performance data recorder. Still cant believe we got 412 passes, 4hpde and 14 autox and 15,600 miles in 9 months....pure pleasure.

The tires didn't last though. Fronts corded at 8000...rears corded at 15,000. And we went through a set of mickey thompson 345/34/18 and halfway through the hoosier drag radials.

Got a set of PS cup N+ for our spring road course and hwy tires...and ordering skinnies for front for drag racing.
