Finally got up the energy to pull the 305 from my 83 wagon and I am looking for advice on swapping in a Vortec engine. I have not bought an engine yet but I am leaning toward getting one from one of the local pick-a-part establishments. If anyone has any advice on finding motor mounts, headers, ect. for these swaps let me know. Love my 283/327/350's but I cannot deny the advantages of these newer engines.

Probably one of the best resources for LS based motors and swaps:

It's not a difficult swap; just a bit time consuming. A guy I know did just that with a 1979 El Camino; installed a 2007 5.3L with the matching 4L60E tranny. The biggest hassle was getting the electric in tank fuel pump to work right, even dialing in the cooling system and electrical interface wasn't that tough.
