well two tires on my truck wont hold air and I don't think I broke the bead on them but I tried to put air into them and they wouldnt inflate? Should i take the tires off the truck and try to inflate them without the weight of the truck on them? or it wouldnt matter much? Just asking because these tires run about 200-250ea and cant afford to buy 2 more at the moment. Thanks in Advance.

I had a couple of tires like that on a truck that had been sitting on flat tires for a while. The bead tends to deform and then won't seal against the wheel. I removed the wheels from the truck and put a ratchet strap around the circumference of one. When I tightened the strap, it tended to pull the bead toward the rim of the wheel. I was then able to get some air into the tire, although it was leaking a lot around the bead. Then I picked the tire up as far as I could lift it and bounced it hard on the ground a few times (hitting the driveway in the upright position) to seat the bead against the wheel. It took a few tries, but eventually the bead sealed. (Gives you a pretty good cardio workout at the same time).

Watching a tv special on Greenland, they had a Toyota 4x4 with real wide low pressure tires. That is the way they got the bead up to seat on the rim with those. Aa far cry from when I worked with Ford split rims and other truck tires. our shop put some one in the hospital about every two years.

I saw a coupla' crazy rednecks in my neighborhood use this very method to seat a trailer tire!!! It was funny to watch from a safe distance and it also worked like a charm!!!

Sometimes taking the valve stem out lets the air in faster and lets the bead catch quicker. Yeah i have used starting fluid to seat tires, it does work but its a little scary. If the first time don't succeeded, then you have to air the tire out cause there isn't enough oxygen to relite it a second time.

Starting fluid, is not needed, to air up a tire already on the rim.. As suggested remove the valve core, and take the weight off.. I have been in tire business for 40 years ... I would take the tires off the truck... break the beads... replace the rubber valves and re-seal and then put back on... If you were close I would do it for free Carl

starter fluid works to seat a bead. the shop i worked at years ago did that on a low ryder where the guy wanted "streched" tires--basicly putting a 4" tire on a 6" rim, its a "style" i think it looks completaly stupid and unsafe. we tried it all to seat the bead to no succcess then my boss went "old school stupid" scary to watch but worked like a charm.

take the rims off the truck or jack to tires up off the fround pull the valve core and fill them up,you may have some leaking from the bead seat, as has been said if the truck has been sitting on flats the bead may be distorted.

good luck
