Thanks gentlemen! I sure wish I had the money to do a full rebuild at a shop, and I suppose I probably still could someday, but I am trying to be careful with our money as our son starts college in the Fall. I think it will do fine for what I need; cruising around town at 30 mph and an occasional 65 mph trip around the local bypass to see my folks. Most of the time we take my wife's car. Thanks again for the encouragement!

Not sure why the front air horn is darker. They've both been cleaned in the same carb dip with the same method. It came off of a W-1 cast as at another GM Divisuon "RPD" instead of "C" for Chevy. My guess is the RPD's have a different tint in the metal alloy. I may paint it, but with air cleaners in place, it probably won't show too much. I also may paint the pump housing caps semi gloss black. I don't like the original paint scheme and I'm trying to vary it a bit.

Thank you Sir! I guess I have another air horn I could switch out. I need to measure the venturis first.

Engine looks fantastic! And I'd leave the air horns as they are. I think it tells a cool story.

Honestly, from my experience with the weight distribution of the Chevy sixes, being top heavy, yes, I'd add some side supports to that test stand.

Little details taking shape. The heat plate and plumbing, hoses, fuel lines, and
temporary air cleaners, glass bowl fuel filter...I need a pair of pancake air cleaners that aren't $300 each!

Electrical is done! Tomorrow should be the big day...first start day! Tomorrow morning I am adding 4 x 4's to the bottom of the cart to function as outrigging. Then I need to add the coolant, prime the oil system, run dry and wet (leak down) compression tests, sync the carb linkage, prime the carbs, double check every connection and bolt, and then hopefully it will start. I bumped the starter a few times tonight and it works. I also have an inline fuse in the ignition harness. I always have a fire extinguisher on hand too. Safety first!

Fellas, although the car runs, I think I have a MAJOR PROBLEM at hand. When I prime the oil system with a cordless drill through the distributor shaft, my oil gauge quickly shoots up to about 30 psi, as it should. The two times I've run the car, I get ZERO oil pressure. I switched gauges today, same result. I unhooked the gauge all together and nothing came out of the line. I am not starting the car any more so I don't damage anything. While the engine was apart, I cleaned the long oil passages with a rifle cleaning rod, so I know they aren't plugged. I fear that the oil pump is broken, but why does it work from the distributor shaft? It doesnt make any sense. I made sure that I primed oil all the way through the top of every rocker arm (and saw it drip!) before I even thought about starting the engine. What could be happening?

I think I have it figured out! The distributor wasn't pushed all the way down in the vacuum advance clamp! I don't think it was engaging the oil pump. I've fixed that and will fire it up tomorrow and test it.

I did some testing today. Oil pressure is 35 psi! Vacuum is STEADY at idle. Temp got up to 180, thermostat opened, engine stayed around 180. No leaks anywhere! Slight timing issues and I need to work on the worn throttle linkage. It binds a bit.

I am so thankful for my dad and his mechanical and engineering skills. At 82, he is still going strong! He worked on huge machinery at an aluminum rolling mill for many years! Pulling this old engine in a tight space was tricky, and his quick thinking got us out of a few "jams" yesterday morning.
