I am seriously considering it at this point. To be honest, when I started this whole ordeal, I didn't know someone was making 12v reproductions of my gas gauge. It sure would take away the heartache!

The last two days I've been cleaning up wiring under the hood, shortening excess lengths, soldering connections previously made hastily, and trying to make things look nice.

I've had my 50 Fleetline for 26 years and the gas gauge never worked. Last year when i started tinkering with it again, I replaced the sending unit at the tank and the gauge in the dash(both 12 volt). worked like a charm! I've never been so happy to have a gas gauge!!!

This week's update:

1. Still no progress on the "buzzing" gas gauge. I have a 12 volt repop gas gauge on back order and Speedway Motors is curious to know if this fixes the problem. I have a knack for being "the first" glitch products ever encounter.

2. I've now patched both front fenders by hand rather than spending $175 each for the sheet metal. They just need to be skimmed with filler and sanded.

3. I'm putting the front end together temporarily to hit a few car shows this month. I'm getting pretty good at assembling and disassembling the front and aligning the gaps! The hood hinges need to be rebuilt. They are pretty wobbly!

4. I'll post some pics this weekend. My biggest enemy right now is apathy. This whole "Covid School Year" is sucking the life out of me and I spend most evenings sitting and staring at the car with no motivation to work on it. Please pray for me...

I go through frustrating times with my car, sometimes thinking a job should take 2 weeks and it's 5 weeks and I'm still not done with it. When I get to that point, I shut the car down for a week or two, and work on non-car stuff. Kat always has a list of projects. It's better for the soul.

I finally got a 12v repop of the gas gauge, and IT WORKS with the Speedway fuel sender interface! Hooray, that only took 3 months to solve! Now there is no need for the Runtz reducer and the buzzing sound is gone. On to better days! I also rebuilt my Carter YF Carb because the accelerator pump diaphragm was going bad. Here are some pics!

Great to see the updates. Hang in there I remember having the same thoughts in the past when It seemed to take longer than expected to complete certain projects on the car. Glad to see you will take the car out for car shows. Its really taken off here in Kansas with more than 1 show per weekend to choose from.

Wow you and Tommy have the best old new chevys on
Chevy Talk! I wouldn't worry a bit to hop in either of your cars and drive across America.
I'm working on my 1951chevy Bel-Air it seems the more I work on her the more I find to do I'm in a slump right now haven't turned a bolt on her in about a month. I know we will never completely finish up our cars we'll be tinkering with them till we die. But wouldn't it be great if we could get a bunch of us older Generation girls and guys and maybe go down Route 66 or even take a trip across America. A trip like that would give me the energy and enthusiasm to get my 51 back on the road and get ready for a trip like that.

Wow, I can't believe I've been away for almost 2 months. A lot has happened. Mainly, I have started putting together an old 235 I've had sitting in the corner of the garage for a few years. Here are some before and after pics. I began the tear down in May and this is where I am as of today, July 10th:

More... Yes, that is a vintage Fenton dual intake, repop Fenton headers, two Carter W-1 Carbs, rebuilt starter, Pertronix HEI conversion on the distributor, and Flame Thrower Coil. I was not able to raise the money to have everything machined at a shop, but it was a complete tear down and cleaning. I also lapped the valves for a tight re-seat and replaced two bad hydraulic lifters. The engine had awesome compression and ran extremely well when I bought it 4 years ago, so our money went toward a much needed family vacation out West the last 2 weeks. Cheers!

Thanks! I'm always stuck at a crossroad for some reason. One of my Carter W-1's wasn't a match, so I ordered another and it didn't end up being a perfect match. So yesterday, I called the Carb King in Eldon, MO and finally found a perfect match and two carb rebuild kits. My goal is to get this engine put together, add some more parts to the test stand (gauges, cooling system, temporary exhaust, battery tray) and fire this thing up before school starts. Beyond that, I still have a list of about 40 items to complete before we can even think about painting the car next year. It has me worried that we're looking at two more years and I don't like the thought of that. Here are two better pics of the engine now:

Yep, your engine looks good! We haven't even thought about paint yet, other than colors, still have left side sheet metal to do. The "urban camo" scheme (5 shades of primer) will have to do. Goal is to get the 49 running this summer and do mechanical shakedown runs.

That is very exciting! I hope everything goes very smoothly! I finally managed to get some interest going today and knocked "1 and half" things off my list! So now I only have 38.5 things left to do...lol.
