I've been crazy busy with the start of school! In between, I welded up many unnecessary holes in the firewall and finally repainted it yesterday. Then I installed my newly rebuilt idler arm. This morning I had a visit from Papa Gee who was on a 49-54 part picking trip through the midwest! Then I ran the engine on the stand one final time, took off all the externals, drained the fluids, and got prepped for putting the 235 into the car in the next few weeks. Special thanks to Sam Rocha for rebuilding my idler arm, and to Papa Gee for rebuilding my steering column! That goes in soon too!

The 235 is in! Now for some late nights after work to get it up and running. Two weeks until our school car show!

She's almost ready to drive, but all the exhaust shops in our area are booked for 1-2 months!

Looking good. Heading for the finish line. I jury rig a couple of mufflers if I had too.

Thanks Keith! She's back on the road! One of the muffler shops had a cancellation and got me in this past Friday! Just in time for our school car show! I reassembled the frontend today! She drives great!

Not a whole lot to report, but I have been dialing in the carbs, and getting tuned up. In other news, I did transfer the trusty old 216 to a test stand, touch up the paint, and put all the external parts back on it so I can run it once a month. I hope to save it for another project, or as a back up if the 235 ever goes bad. Today I got it started and ran it for about 30 seconds.

Thank you! I hope to get back on the car work this weekend. I've needed a little break this year, but the itch is starting to come back!

Tim, sometimes you just have to drive , gives pleasure, but also relieves the stress of the build. I burned out a little working on mine, so I’ve just driven and maintained for the last year. I need an interior and some other cosmetic stuff, but have just not jumped up to the cost.
Keep going

Thanks guys! Yeah, it's not been a productive year, but the car is driving well. Just so you know, I did attempt to put the hood back on this weekend, but I discovered that the vendor that rebuilt my hood hinges sent back one that was a slight mismatch...I'm guessing for a 53-54? They looked the same but the holes are slightly off and one is about an inch longer than the other. He said he must have boxed up the wrong one. He's sending the right one very soon. Tomorrow I am installing the conversion box to go from an electric speed sensor in my T5 to the mechanical cable driven speedometer in the original gauge cluster. Plus, my T5 speed sensor is damaged, so I bought another from the parts store. Here are pics.

I've finally gotten back to working on my '50 Styleline this weekend, after taking several months to work on myself (weight loss, health, high blood pressure). Yesterday I installed the Dakota Digital ecd-200bt-1 cable drive that allows my T5 with an electronic speedo to drive my original cable driven speedometer. The physical install went well and the odometer now turns. However, when I go to calibrate the speedo, the settings won't save and I get the code for "no signal" found. Anyone else encounter this? I plan to call Dakota this week, but I thought I'd check here first. It's obviously getting some sort of signal, or the odometer wouldn't be rolling numbers over. Thanks!

Sorry, I haven't been around. I haven't hardly touched my car the past year except to replace a collapsed lifter that started knocking. It's all good now. I hope to get back to it soon. Life has been too busy lately. We had our best marching band season in school history this past Fall. In the midst of that, I somehow bought a 1942 GMC TRUCK that was parked for 30 years, got it running and stopping and put in all new electrical and lights, sold it for a small profit, and accomplished all that in 5-6 months. My son is in his 2nd year of college, (remember the little guy in the pics back when I joined?) and he now teaches our drumline at school. My wife is currently battling a small bout with breast cancer that was found in December, but her prognosis is highly treatable and she is one tough woman. Prayers appreciated! That's about it. I just hope to get back on the car and get back on here a little more very soon. I hope everyone is doing well! Cheers!
