Finishing the interior POR-15 and making backseat trunk panels today. Tomorrow the wiring harness goes back in "for keeps".

For the last few weeks, I've been redoing the wiring and trying to clean things up a bit. This coming month I plan to rebuild the original gauge cluster and vacuum wiper motor, finish wiring, and build small front and back consoles to house a new stereo, cup holders, speakers, USB chargers, and storage. Here are a few pics.

I've looked at several ways to install a stereo, but I don't want to hack up the dash, the original speaker grill, or the rear windshield sill plate. I thought about custom carpentry and then found these: 1950s era film projectors for $25 each. I plan to use the cases to build front and rear consoles. They will hold the stereo, speakers, cup holders, and USB chargers, plus a little storage. AND, they match the shape and original interior colors of the car, so I may not upholster them. The Bell and Howell case will look nice between the shifter and the dash and the DeJur case will look nice sitting on the back seat trans tunnel. Both will need a bit of arched trimming to fit the hump.

I'm just over here taking my time and doing my thing. Front radio console is done, and the gauge cluster, clock plate, and glove box are now restored. Bonus: the clock is mint and WORKS.

Tim, nice work. I was struggling with your earlier mention of console design.....but I got it.

Thanks Bill! I really struggled with it too, in other ways. I needed something bubble shaped like the car and the old Bell and Howell projector fit the style. I've seen lots of bad plywood consoles on the internet and I just didn't want to go that route.

Mocking up the heater to reroute air ride wiring...I also can't wait to restore the steering wheel and horn in the next few weeks. That's a new horn ring, horn swivel kit, and an NOS steering wheel cap I bought last year.

Thank you! I may have to slow down and back peddle a bit. In my excitement to get the dash done, some of the wiring in the last two weeks has gotten a little sloppy on the routing. I need to go back and clean that up with zip ties, trimming a few circuits, and even soldering on a few extensions. I've been a little too much in a hurry lately.
