I started welding in the tunnel arches today and got the new tunnel fitted. This week we'll weld that up and get this phase finished!

I did some reassembly today so I can start working on door gaps, etc. Hopefully the air management system will go in next week.

Over the last few days I have been framing out the new trunk floor and the '65 Mustang gas tank. Pics:

I was making good headway on the trunk floor this morning and then ran low on argon Co2 and OUT of welding wire at the SAME time. I guess it wasn't meant to be. Other places to be now, so I guess I'll call it a day.

Not today for the air system install, after all... I cut my day short, but it's for a good cause. I did button up the floor, shorten the filler tube, welded on a vent tube from the oem '50 filler, mounted the tank to the platform, and tried a few set ups with the compressors.

I finally started actually installing the air management today. It's a much slower process than I imagined. It seems like the decisions you have to make are harder than the physical work on this phase. I figure about 4-5 more days until it's done:
Mon - Continue Wiring and Rear Plumbing
Tues - Front Plumbing, have to remove front wheels, calipers, discs, and separate spindle to open the control arms to lower the bag plate/rod to access and install new bag fittings.
Wed - switch back to one wire alternator, new 105 amp, fabricate bracket
Thurs - Finish fuel line to gas tank, paint touch ups, bolt down tank, bolt down air platform.
Fri - Test Drive?

Thanks! Today I had lots of progress, still not done. I painted and seam sealed the trunk, installed the gas tank and air rack, trimmed all the wires and hoses, and cleaned up the routing and harness down the middle. I still need to lengthen the power wires, pass through the firewall, install the new alternator, mount the relays, and run a power wire back to the aux terminal on the ignition switch. We're getting close! I hope to drive it tomorrow or Saturday!

Thanks guys! We've run into a small issue; nothing bad. The brakes were fine...until I reinstalled the wiring harness and the BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. Guess what happened? Being that the body is on a new frame, the brake light switch throws the dual master cylinder adjustment rod out of whack a little bit, and it's not releasing pressure! And, now that the car is a lowrider, guess what I can't reach...the adjustment nut! Lol, it will be fine. I will likely have it towed to my mechanic where he can put it on a lift and reach the adjuster. Ah, the challenges we face!

Otherwise, the car handles pretty well and I am getting a feel for the air ride suspension. I've spent a lot of time figuring out my clearance and the do's and don'ts of air ride travel. Anywhere we drive in traffic, I plan to have the car at ride height. If I'm going super slow in our subdivision (lots of children out playing, so we always drive slowly in all of our cars!) I can cruise with the bags at 50 psi, which leaves about 2 inches of ground clearance. My car buddies in the neighborhood (including my friend on the sherrif's dept. that originally located my 1st timer in a field outside a nearby town!) have seen me test driving and say the car looks great! Let the real fun begin!

It's been a while with no update... Things have been pretty busy with work and home. The brakes are dialed in now, the glass is all reinstalled, and I'm mocking up two different modified backseat options for the raised tunnel. That's the beauty of having two sets of seats laying around. The full bench seat from this 2 door sits way too high and I hate to chop it up. The bench seat from the four door we had actually fits the raised wheel wells better, so I went ahead and cut it in half with the intent to build a drink holder and phone charger console between them. Both options are still on the table and my original seats aren't hacked up. The other thing I like about the split seat and console is the ability to run the main harness and air ride hoses down the middle of the car without the fear of the full bench seat rubbing them in any way. The console will cover those up without making any contact whatsoever. I've also been doing some practice driving, getting used to the 5 speed and basically learning to drive all over again. It's fun!

Thanks everyone! Sorry I've been missing so much. Like Bill alluded when he wished me well, I've been focusing all my time and energy into fielding a marching band since July 6th. So far, not one kid has tested positive for this dreaded virus. I know it's because the kids are following all the new rules and a lot of the parents and I are praying for these kids every day. These kids need social interaction with their friends, even if it's scaled back drastically. We had a boy who nearly committed suicide during quarantine this spring and Band, friends, and school has literally saved his life! And he is telling everyone he sees! Praise God!
