Thanks Keith! I took a day off work today to finish the job. Good riddance ROTTEN FRAME...you've cost me a lot of time and money and delayed my project long enough. But hey, I guess I'll still have a lowrider with air bags! I am saving the front 1/3 to make an engine testing stand. The rest may be for sale...

The first task tonight was trimming, shaping, and welding a seam from the new passenger toe kick to the new front floor. This was already done up top a few years ago, but not under the car. MIXED RESULTS... a few good welds and more than a few bad ones. My welding upside down is not getting any better. My new strategy is going back to the old one: Strengthen the body welds underneath just enough to turn it on it's side in a frame and do it the easy way. I'm still hitting my head on the car floor even with the body 30" off the ground. That and I discovered that the one old floor brace I kept is also bad. Time to call emsautomotive!

Tonight I trimmed, shaped, and welded the same front seam as yesterday, but this time on the driver side. My prep work and my vertical and upside down welds improved, but my phone died so there is no after pic. Maybe later...

Yesterday was a great day. I got half of the under body prepped and stitch welded. This is going faster than I thought it would, so I may be able to get the car onto the new frame by march. I am seriously considering NOT putting the body on a rotisserie. My work is really not show quality anyway and I don't want this body hanging from my rafters or sitting on saw horses or a rotisserie for six months. My plan is to finish minor repairs, POR 15 and seam seal by March. I am considering replacing the rear floors when the tunnel comes out. But I won't do anything that could distort the body until it's bolted to a frame again.

Wow. 2/3 done with underbody prep, repairs, and welding! If I can replace one bad trunk brace Wednesday night, one bad floor brace on Saturday night, clean and prep the rear body and notch the wheel wells Sunday, we could do a test fit on the new frame next week!

Now I've gone from super busy at work to SICK. Yay... not much to show except that I am done with the last floor brace replacement, seam sealing, and have started the 1st coat of POR 15.

I almost skipped this step today to put the body on the new frame. Thankfully, I knew deep down that was a bad idea! Both front lower corners of the body had severe floor board rot hiding between two book-ended braces that "sandwich" the front corners of the car. I cut around all this and welded TO it when I put in the new floors two years ago. It was still strong, but it probably would have rusted out in about 5 more years. So, I hit the brakes today, ordered new upper braces from ems automotive, started replacing the corner of the floor, and cleaned and weld-thru primed the lower brace for later. Once the missing piece of the toe kick is made and welded in, then we weld in the lower brace (the one in primer). In a few days the new door jam braces arrive, and one of those gets welded to the jam and the floor, sandwiching the corner of the floor to the rest of the body. It's like performing surgery without going to med school...but I'm succeeding! And then to the other side for the same procedure...

Oops. I skipped a day. I forgot to show yesterday's work. The rest of the underbody is now welded securely, seam sealed, and has two coats of Grey POR-15. I have skipped the trunk for now since the wheel wells and most of the trunk floor will be replaced with deeper tubs and a Mustang "in floor" gas tank. Here are some pics...
