Today I reattached the front crossmember temporarily for a mock up of the front end parts to check bag clearance before welding. Not quite ready to move ahead, but getting closer.

Thanks Bill! Yesterday I notched an arch in the front of the lower A arm, and now the bag clearance is great in every direction.

And now the passenger lower control arm is notched and the bag is mocked up. Today I also ordered my Fatman Dropped uprights from Gambino Kustoms and tomorrow I start cleaning and sandblasting the upper A arms and cleaning up the spindles for mock up. The goal is to put some wheels on it in a few weeks and check all the clearances with the bags inflated and deflated. Pics:

This has been a much slower summer than last year. All I've done this week is clean, degrease, thread chase, re-grease, and partially assemble and center the upper control arms, spindles, bushings, etc. I'm currently awaiting my Fatman dropped uprights from Gambino Kustoms. I also dismantled my spindles from the old uprights. One king pin was stuck, so I had to heat the spindle with a torch and drive it out. Fun, fun...

Thanks Tommy! It's been slow, but as you guys always remind me, small steps forward is still progress. Thanks for the encouragement. My Fatman dropped uprights arrived today! They are works of art. I can't wait to install them, the spindles, bearings, and wheels and see how low we can get!

Awesome progress! Like you said - just keep moving. That's the goal I set on mine; no deadline, just commit to working on it every weekend. I'm looking forward to the video of this thing with the air bags working; so cool to see that "rise and fall"....

Thanks David! I really hope to do a temporary assembly of the front wheels tomorrow, lower the car with a floor Jack, take some measurements, and check clearances!

It's put together and it's low! Wish I could get it down 3 more inches. Still figuring this out. The Fatman dropped uprights are beautifully crafted! More updates tomorrow!

Won't it drop a little more once the weight of engine body etc is added?

Hi Bill! I think normally it would. I think there are 2-3 factors at play:

1. The way I have added smooth steel plate to the inside of the lower control arms is causing the crossmember to bottom out early. If the plate was outside the control arm, I would gain an inch or so.

2. I think my spring hat notch could be deeper by another 1/2 inch. I need to remeasure my cut.

3. I am guessing the weight of the enginr should drop it about 1/2 an inch.

4. I have no idea how to gain that last inch of drop, without stepping the control arms. Already having the Fatman dropped uprights, I really don't wish to do that.

5. I wonder if I could somehow notch the lower control arms just a bit underneath where they hit the crossmember.
