Thanks Jerry, and yes it does feel good. It is going to be hard to wait for them to finish the paint and then I can actually get started putting things back together again after so many years. I will probably have a ton of question above and beyond what I have already asked here on CT. Still working on the room where she will reside. Again thanks, Lamar

The painter wanted me to come out today and go over it and see if it is where I want it and he is supposed to paint it starting tomorrow. He has taken pictures along the way and I asked if he did video and he said that I could come out and video all I want too but I can’t decide if I want to just wait and see it when it is completed and hopefully be “WOWED” or go ahead and video some of the shoot. I emailed Michael (Chevyfan60) copied from email: (Hi Michael. Got a question for you, well more than one, one of your post was concerning the lighter color of the top and bottom of the steering wheel; what color code did you come up with. The sheen on the ‘60’s dash was changed to a less sheen than the 59’s but did the steering wheel & column stay the higher sheen? The painter wanted to know if I wanted to do the trunk in splatter or body color, what is yours? I know that yours is Tasco Turquoise with a white top, mine is all Turquoise except for the white strip down the side. Any help would be appreciated. He is supposed to shoot it tomorrow. Thanks Michael. Lamar) and maybe someone else could jump in also.
Thanks, Lamar

I have done some research since I posted and as a matter of fact when I googled “1960 chevy steering wheel color, or something like that, an earlier post by Chevyfan60 was referenced. https://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?ti... And I got some of my answers there. Also on http://www.348-409.com/paintresto.html it says that up to 1960 the trunks were painted the body color and then changed to splatter paint beginning in 1961. Now my dilemma is choosing the correct color. He had 3 spray-out cards. One is PPG 915, one is Global 915 and he matched up another one which is American Motors color. He has been in business for over 40 years and has a lot of original paint chip books and when we compared the 3 cards to the 1961 chip, 61 because he couldn’t find the ’60, the American Motors card was the closest. The PPG and Global were way off. I am trying to find a ’59, ’60 or ’61 Turquoise close to my area to see if I can take the cards and see which one matches the closest. If anyone on CT knows of anyone in metro Atlanta that may have what I’m looking for PLEASE let me know. Thanks in advance, Lamar

Just got back from the paint shop a little bit ago and by now the exterior should be almost painted. I have e-mailed back and forth with Michael and here is the info that I gave him (just copied and pasted rather than type it over). When I get it back next week I will post the pictures that I have.

Hi Michael
In my post yesterday I stated that while doing some searching on google, your post on 11-1-10 came up and it had the answers to most of my questions. One of the cards that Tom gave me was PPG-915 didn’t match the chip in his book very well. The card from Globel-915 didn’t match very well either. The card from American Motors came really close but there was just something about it that left a big ? mark. After the info that I got from your post about the paint back then having only “fine” metal flakes or “aluminum dust” I called him this morning. He said that the card with the A.M. paint had 50/50 fine and larger flakes so he mixed up some more with only the fine flakes and bingo it was almost a perfect match and I told him to go with it. Not being familiar with the paint stuff it is hard to believe how changing the metal flakes makes that much of a change. The trunk up to and including 1960 was the body color, starting in 1961 they went with spatter paint. My dash, dash trim and the other pieces will be the satin, the steering wheel and column will be the gloss. I took one of my seat covers from Ciadella for him to match the top and bottom of the wheel with the light color on the seat cover. I also e-mailed him the paint formula for the steering wheel that you sent me:(sorry that numbers don't line up)
SKU
Desc Inc. (part) Cum. (part)
M119 White 359.9 359.9
M118 Black 43.1 403.0
M128 Green 37.8 440.8
M133 Violet 11.7 452.5
M121 Blue 11.4 463.9
M116 Yellow 10.7 474.6
M122 Blue 5.3 479.9
MX195 Accelerator 9.2 489.1
M149 Clear 157.8 646.9
I went back over to the shop this afternoon after they got it in the spray booth and took a couple of videos and some stills and it really did look sharp. Can’t wait to get it back to start the long process of reassembly.
Again thank you for your response, Lamar

This has been a long time coming. Tom and his crew did a wonderful job on the car. Now I have one more gigantic puzzle to start trying to put together. I have had a bunch of questions up to this point but they are probably going to get very frequent now. Lamar

Just want to thank you all for the kind words and encouragement. The color seems to look a little more bluish than I remember the original looking but that was many years ago and Tom did 4 spray out cards and this one after adjusting the metallic to all fine metallic was so close to the paint chip in his original paint chip book I decided on it but then at certain angles it looks as I remember it. I am more than happy with the results.
My goal for finishing it was Feb. 12, 2015 in time for our 50th anniversary but that’s not going to happen so my next goal is to have it ready before the 2016 Chevys come out because I am going to see if a local Chevy dealer will let me put it on the showroom floor next to a new 2015 Impala.
I’m not going to post a picture every time I install something but I had to post one of the first thing that I installed and that was the parking brake cable bracket. One down and ????to go.

Nice work Lamar and as Jens points out: now the real fun begins! You will probably assemble it quicker than you think. You might even get it running and able to move on its own power by the Feb deadline. It will be a memorable event for your anniversary.
