Yeah it ended up being a little more work than i thought it would be. But I enjoy fabricating and modifying. Figured since I was cutting it up to remove all the rot, might as well make it the way I want it.

Hi Nitedragon, One of the early custom tricks you could do to the rotted hood corners is to radius them so they are curved not square. Its' quite a bit of work but the original corners are gone anyway. The other thing to be aware is that the four door sedan and two door sedan aren't as close as they look and there is a lot of messing about two make a good two door conversion. Its a lot easier to find a two door shell and then swap them out. A young metal sculptor neighbor here did one and he was amazed as to how much more work it was than you would expect.
He also fitted Buick taillights and to make it tidy he made up a simple die that pressed a base for the taillight to weld into the guard. It came out really nice with well defined edges given how simple the die was. I could find out if he would do you a set if I can track him down

thanks for the info kiwi, I know whatcha mean about the slight differences. I didnt notice them until I got into it so it made it a bit more work, but I enjoy the challenge. It probably would have been easier if I used the whole back door as filler instead of using the 2 door lower front quarters, but the rear rockers and door bottoms were too bad. The stock hinge suicide also made the conversion a bit more tricky. The pass side is mostly done as far as the conversion goes, I think it came out great.

I like the idea of the radius corners for the hood. I might try that, I already had plans to radius the doors so that might tie in well.

Id like to see some pics of your neighbors buick taillight setup. I have some ideas in mind but havent started on them yet.

Got one of the buckets made and tacked in for the buick taillights. Still have some tweaking on the flo of the light to the tailpan and im also widening the rear of the quarters to flow with the lights as well, which will close in the gap between the quarters and bumper sides.

Wow, can't believe I haven't updated this in 2 years. I have got a lot accomplished on it tho. The two-door conversion is complete, the door is stretched, and B-pillar relocated. I had a lot more rot to fix on the driver's side then the other. I had to replace the front and middle floor braces. Couldn't justify the cost, so I made them. Inner/outer rockers are replaced. A couple sections of the wheelhouse were rotted. I fixed those and rebuilt the inner wheel arch below the removable panel. I made the inner rocker from the pillar back as well as rocker panel endcap. Then made the floor pan extension to the quarter skin and finally welded the remains of the rear door skin with new front lower quarter to the body. I have the outer wheel arch ready to install but got pulled away to a house project. I'll update more when I get back on it.

Thought I had more pics of the door installed but this is the only one I could find and don't feel like hanging the door for pics.

Replaced the door corner to rocker

Ive had a burst of motivation and got alot accomplished recently. I extended the A-pillar doorjam so it will seal up with weatherstrip on the front of the door since its swinging the other way. Door is hung. Front of door and part of inner door skin reworked to use stock latch mechanism.

Sorry for the large pics

Moved on to the rear to reshape and tuck the 54 front bumper. Since the bumper matches the flow of the rear so well I deleted the splash pan and will mount the bumper flush to the body. I decided to mount the 49 buick taillights differently since I got the new bumper so Ill have to go back and redo the pass side to match. I made a new bucket for the drivers side and mounted the light using a cabinet door hinge attached to a round stock frame. The gas door will be shaved and the filler located under the light, havent cut the hole for it yet as I dont know what style cap im gonna go with yet. I raised and peaked the top of the fender to flow with the new light, the same will happen on the back side of the fender below the light.

I like that tucked-in bumper.
