Here are some pics of my g3 chevelle. 350 motor 350 trans 8.5 rearend with 373 gears and a richmond powertrax locker. i am a fan of retro you know side pipes, slot mags, cb radios, mickey thompson valve covers etc.

The side pipes are dynomax brand. I installed them about 7 years ago. I got them from summit racing ( a 45 minute drive from me), the install was pretty straight forward , 2 mounting brackets. I have hooker headers and it took some pipe cutting and fitting but i did it all in my driveway. The are just glasspack mufflers that dump under the door. (It is a little loud in the interior) they sound good typical 70's rumble.

That sounds like just what I am looking for. Do these come in different lengths? If so what length did you use? Any side pictures of the car to really show off the pipes?

I measured the distance between the wheel wells and used that as a guide. I think they were 72 inches. I do remember that they were the longest ones dynomax makes (made?). Good luck. I'll try to take and post some more pics in the near future.

I have had it since I was 19. (1994). i bought it from the original owners son. He had received it as a high school graduation present in'81. It was redone by him in'85, maaco paint job, nugget mags, jc whitney dual exhaust. And a'77 cutlass black bucket seat interior. When i bought it ($2700.00) it had been driven less than a 1000 miles in the previous 10 years. I replaced the rotted doors, tucked the bumpers, did the body work myself and had a buddy paint it in his garage. It has a 350 with #416 305 hi po heads. Built turbo 350 with stall converter.. 8.5 rear end with 373 gears and a locker. I have before pics but they are not digital, just snapshots in a album. I've done and redone so much on this car i could probably write a book. My wife is always on my case as to why i can't "finish " working on it. Oh well is my first hot rod.

Its been a while so I figured I post some up dated pics. I bought this car in 1994, so I have had it twenty years. I am always changing things on this car (much to the dismay of my wife)
First my custom hood, I got a pair if '67 buick gran sport hood scoops from eBay, and a used '73 .elcamino hood from craigs list.
Here's what it looks like installed, It still obviously needs paint.
A member here (slopenose) offered up a free console last year which I took (thanks again) I fitted it to my car after making a custom shifter plate for the hurst dual gate shifter to fit through w/o hacking up the console.

Here is my new rear suspension set up. Along with the new arms I also installed stock replacement springs (to remove the oversize olds 98 springs I installed back in the '90's)plus a '95 impala SS rear sway bar. I purchased control arm relocation brackets but have yet to install them.
Here is what she currently looks like, I just recently changed the tires to black wall, and added center caps (something it has never had)
And finally what powers the beast. It's the original 350 with #416 305 h/o heads on it. It also has a performer rpm intake, holley carb, hooker headers, a msd ignition, and a edelbrock cam.

I made that using a old steel shelf. I mocked it up out of cardboard, then transferred to sheet metal. It came out nice enough that I paid $40.00 to have it powder coated. It is mounted to the factory holes in the bottom of the bumper. If you'd like more detailed photos of it let me know.

I have a fiberglass front bumper so I don't think it would withstand mounting anything to it.
I had a Chevy truck part mounted further back (under the rad support) for many, many years. It finally broke and I did not replace it. I'm not sure I can tell much difference.

Can you post pics with the '76 El Camino grille?
I may have popped in a time or two at g3gm. I'm a regular on a Pontiac board and a Chevy pickup site and can barely keep up with just those two.

Here it is, i painted it semigloss black (instead of the factory agent silver). BTW if you do this you will need the support brackets from a "76/"77 as they are different, and the '74 emblems won't work w/o modifing them. (the bowtie in the pic is from the elcamino)

Thank you. I like the grille surround but the mesh deviates too far from stock for what I would want to do. I have a piece of plastic with small squares (from an elevator florescent light fixture, if you can imagine) that matches pretty well. I may pursue using that.

Yes - none of those are close enough to the stock '74 pattern to satisfy me.
So, for now, the die cast grille remains.
