Help please...I have a 91 s-10 4.3 automatic 2 wheel drive. Want to check the timing..My chiltons says "see the decal under the hood".No decal at all.This p/u has been around the block many times & also repainted.Cleaned & marked the damper,but with timing lite on=no show.Also once heard the dist plug in on back of dist must be unplugged?? Please let me know the right way to do this..

For the Small block TBI trucks, the timing specification is Zero degrees BTDC.
Here is some information I saved for a 1993 S/T truck.
Check and see if your truck is the same.
On 1993 V6 S/T trucks, to set the ignition timing, unplug the set timing connector. The timing connector breaks out of the wiring harness below the heater case in the passenger compartment on the passenger side of the firewall. It is a single wire connector with a tan wire with a black strip.

Zero is the factory timing. Truck owner sometimes add up to 4 degrees for more power and efficiency. Any more timing requires a chip upgrade.
