I just bought a ’46 chevy 1.5 ton truck with the stock 235 c.i. motor and everything is still 6 volts. I’d like to switch it to 12 volts. Will the gauges work on 12 volt and is there a chevy starter motor that’s 12 volt from a ’55 or newer that will bolt onto the 235 c.i engine?

No 12 volt starter will work. You can use your 6 volt starter, just don't hold it on to long. Will really spin the engine.
Here is the way to convert to 12 volt.

1948 Chevy Fleetmaster Coupe Purchased 6/2010. Stock with rebuilt 52 216 installed May 1966.
1946 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup, stock. Purchased 11/18/17.
1962 Ranchero Purchased 4/2017 221 V8 Automatic.
