Electric=more voltage (more cells in the battery pack)
Gas=bigger percentage of nitro in the fuel
Hobby shop should be able to fix you up.

well for the toys the stickers would obviously work but for the real deal you need one big bad censored nitrous thing..

As a habitual RC junkie I'll say something that might come off a bit harsh...Modding a new bright RC car is giant effort in futility. They run brushed motors with 6volt nicd battery packs. Adding more voltage would be the way to go faster but chances are the speed control will shut down with too much voltage. Again, waste of time.
Go to a local hobby shop and get a quality RC car. One that CAN be upgraded and also fixed when it gets crashed. HPI makes a great Ready to Run (RTR) awd brushless powered electric touring car that comes in different styles including a Corvette or Camaro body. Brushless is way to go fast- faster than nitro in RC now. I'm running a brushless powered off road truck with a 3 cell lipo battery (11.1v) up to 70 mph. That's real MPH, radar verified not "scale speed" that is listed on the box of most toy store RC's.
edit----holy thread revival! Duh!

If it is just like mine You can take the system from a double horse 7009 boat and put the motor in the same spot and take the servo and put it in place of the steering motor.....Caution! allot of this would need to be basically custom installed by you and if you get the front wedged under something do not try and steer the car it will break a little gear inside the servo and then it will be useless or you can upgrade the servo to a metal gear one for better performance. This setup will make the car steer funny and it will be tough to drive but it will be able to do donuts and do all kinds of things.. jump curbs, etc If you are pretty good with electronics your self you will probably see the logic any way ....Happy racing.
