I'm new to the corvette section and new to corvettes; will pick up my first next week, 05 loaded magnetic red coupe. I'm told it will need new front tires. After reviewing this site and tire sites I'm down to selecting Michelin Pilot super sport tires. Questions are: AS vs PS2? Run flats vs reg?? Is it a better ride w/regular and have a can of fix flat at all times? I've also been told to get this shift bypass device to over ride this wierd shift deal on the 6 spd. Is this a do it yourself deal? Where do I get this device? How does it go in? etc, etc. Thanks guys for any help. (Been in the 62/63 area for years, but this is my first Corvette! Can't wait to run through the gears with some power!)

Hey Duane - congrats on the vette. I'm not fully up on the Michilens. My fronts were gone at 25K miles, the backs showed hardly any wear. I wanted to get the Pilots, non-run flats, but the tire store said I had to replace all four as they are not compatible handling wise. I wasn't prepared money wise to do all four, especially since the rears looked good. I got the Goodyears for the fronts again, 750 bucks. I figure by the time the fronts are chewed through the rears will need to be replaced so I'll get all four Pilots, better ride, quieter and last longer. I always ran the Goodyears on my '88 and '00 and would get 60 to 80K out of them, I don't know what the deal is with the F1 Super Car tires but the tire wear is unacceptable and yes the car has been aligned and rechecked.
That skip shift thing is easy, it will take you longer to lift the car than to install the harness bypass. You could unplug it right now and eliminate the skip shift, the harness plug is to keep moisture and debris out of the connector fittings. It's located back at the transaxle on the driver side. Mid America, Ecklers, West Coast Corvette and others all carry it for the same price, $20. BTW, lift the rear with a piece of plywood on your floor jack under the crossmember making sure not to make contact with the spring or sway bar. There are also two jack points on both sides but the body work goes under and a jack will damage it. I bought steel pucks that fit in the slot and it keeps the jack or stands from making contact. Yer gonna love that car.

Hello Duane, I have the same vette only Victory Red and you will love it. I did run flat Firestone Firehawks last year and they are pretty stiff. Wish I had done the run flat.
FYI, I was told DO NOT USE Fix a Flat because it will ruin the tire pressure monitors and they are supposedly over $300. I am packing a 12 volt compressor and a tire plug kit. In Montana it is a long ways between towns so I figure I will pump up, listen for leak and plug and pray it holds til I hit a tire shop. Otherwise it is a haul it home job. Enjoy your Vette!!! Jim

Old Yellow, I'm a little confused. Did you get non run flats? Sounded like it. Well I did get the car w/700mile trip home. Well, 75 miles into it, the right front went flat. I finally got to a place that could deal with it, but they wouldn't fix it because of the condition of the tread. So, my choice was an inexpensive (relative) non run-flat (Primewell) or a set of front tires @$800-$900. I went cheap to get me home, but now I'm considering spending another $160 for the second matching front tire. I know tire people won't recommend this, but for $700 I figure I can get AAA,a trac phone, & plug kit. Even with totally mismatched front tires, I have no problems keeping it under control. I'm not about pushing this car to it's limits, just cruising down the road, briskly accelerating on occasions! Has anyone found something that would jack this car, but easily carried?

If it's forcing the 1 - 4 shift it isn't installed.
