My daughter messed up my HHR. She was in a parking lot waiting for someone to back out of a parking place and another car was in a hurry to get out and because the first car was taking too long she floored her car and backed out into my daughter and then took off like a bat out of Hades. she hit directly in the lower passenger side door hinge and I only have libiality insurance. I suppose the A pillar is bent in the hinge area. The door will not open but 2 or 3 inches. I still owe my property taxes from last year, so it will be a long time before it gets fixed. JB

She said she just paniced and sat there and stared at the car as it drove off under full throttle. She did not even call the police because someone told her because it was in a mall parking lot and was privite property the police would do nothing about it. I believe the main reason she paniced was because she was afraid I would blow my top. In my younger days I did have a pretty good temper. JB

the store is not responsable for accidents in the parking lot unless a cart hits your vehicle, but hit & run is illegal and the other person is still responsible, The store may also have camera's outside as well as posting an add in the paper to see if there where any other witnesses, even a description to the police of the vehicle may net the culprit as well as the other people possibly claiming she hit them and ran off for a possible hit and run against your daughter.

I never thought about the store camera, but did forget to say the plates were from a differant state which she probably went to real quickly. JB

It is still property damage done by one person to another and it doesn't matter if it is on private property or not.
Police don't usually issue tickets for traffic violations on a shopping center parking lot but try driving very recklessly in front of a cop and you will get a ticket, private property or not.

Not to long ago, The wife and I were eating lunch at a local restaurant and came out only to find a huge crease "dent" in the rear passenger door of our HHR. I looked for note on window... found none... with a little time and investigation I noticed the mini van parked next to me had the same color paint that had transfered onto our door and silver paint from our HHR was on the leading edge of the mini van door. I was furious and went back inside the restaurant to have the owner of said minivan paged. after waiting 10 minutes and paging the owner 3 times he finally showed up at the front of the restaurant. I proceeded to have him come outside open his rear door and show him where whoever was riding in the rear seat of his vehicle had slammed their door into our car. Suprisingly he was very cooperative and he gave me his insurance info and we went and had our car fixed although it'll never be perfect like it was before. What upsets me the most is how people know they damaged something but go about there own way without trying to correct what they did wrong. Things have changed alot since the old days when the other guy would come find you and tell you he was sorry but he did some damage to your property and try to make it right.

jb2wheeler In Nc Comprehensive Ins will cover things like that. It will cover anything that is not your fault such as deer. Also do not confuse this with Collision Ins. Less than hundred bucks a year. Mine was like forty on a 2003 Sonoma.
