I just got a " service steering lock" on my odmoter screen. It shuts the gas off and won`t let the car move. Is there any fixes to this problem. It`s on a 2002 vette

Go to the C5 Tech sub forum at corvetteforum.com and use the "search" or "search this forum" (in the red banner). Use keywords "clb" or "column lock bypass".

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zeromain

That forum never deletes any technical threads from the archives. There's probably 10,000 past threads on this topic. There's more than one manner to handle this. The most common DIY modification is called a "clb". Basically it's an electronic device that tricks the computer into believing the column lock is still functioning, but it has been disabled.

The dealership may or may not still repair your car under warranty. They use a different approach to the issue. The GM VIS (vin check of past GM services) may reveal it's already been done, and it's failed. There have been two to three variations of the GM offered solution, so make sure you get the most recent if you chose to use the dealership.

If you chose not to use the dealership, you can buy the after market column lock bypass and install it yourself. You cannot install a "clb" until you release the steering wheel lock though. The link below is long, but it'll describe what you can DIY to possibly break the steering lock free temporarily until you install the "clb". The device is available through several after market sources, but the most popular source is CORVETTES OF HOUSTON, at approx. $50.00.

The recalls that the dealers did was just a temporary fix. Like the previous poster said, get a hold of Corvettes of Houston and get that device to fix the problem for good.
