The car I learned to drive in was a 79 Malibu Classic wagon with a 305. I loved driving that car around the field and my dad always said how it was one of the best driving cars he ever had. Eventually got sold for next to nothing( i cant even say how much, its shameful). Wish I could find me another one of these cars. Just felt like sharing

They are nice driving cars although really underpowered. When I decided to buy my 65 Barracuda project car I gave my 81 Malibu wagon and a Pontiac parts car away to make room for it.

I picked up a 77 impala wagon last month at that time there was a 79 malibu wagon on ebay I think it was in delaware/maryland .

Here is a pic of my new 77 it has the 305 and runs great just need to fix the a/c

No, it's white like the rest of the car, other than the genuine simulated woodgrain.

Oh ok. My dads 79 was that real pale yellow color. Almost kind of tan maybe.

It was getting pretty rusty near the end Cort, and it was running on 7 before I parked it. I tried to sell it on a local board here and I couldn't get a bite on a 300 dollar price tag. Surprising because the car was loaded with just about every option. It has been sitting behind my buddies shop in his compound for a couple of years now.

The last couple of years it was on the road, the tinworm hit it fast and hard.



That bubble rusted through not too long after the pic was taken



The window channel was pretty much gone too.

That's a shame. My '83 was a low option wagon. It had A/C and cruise control (dealer installed) and a roof rack and that was about it. Still had the AM radio in it when I bought it off of my in laws for $800.00. I actually bought another car for $800.00 and switched with my wife, then girlfriend, that was driving the wagon at the time. My in-laws thought I was nuts to pay $800.00 for the wagon. I drove it for 2 1/2 years until I pulled it off the road to pro-street it and turn it into a 2 door. The only thing I put in it was gas, a starter and a radiator hose in that time. It was running on 6 cylinders when I bought it, but that was okay because it was a 229 6 cylinder in it.

I really did like the car Jay as it was a great cruiser. It had a 305 4 bbl, T-350C, Tilt, cruise, AC, power windows, am/fm/cassette, remote rear window latch, power drivers seat, and probably a few other options I'm forgetting right now. I still have the factory radio in the shop somewhere and it worked well but I put an am/fm/CD player in the car a few years before I parked it. I wonder if it would be worth anything on Flea Bay??? The heads in the tape deck just needed a little cleaning as the sound was getting a bit muddy before I yanked it out.

I remember, Red. You told me back then how bad it was rust-wise ... still wish I'd been able to buy it and use it. Though, I am happy with my '79 Caprice Classic for the winter.

Yes that's the one Cort. I'm a bit embarrassed by the condition of the garage in that pic. It isn't any better right now, though tomorrow I will be getting things neatened up to prepare for the wagon to come back home. Here's a pic of it with all of the junk removed before it got the new work done:

It's getting there. The tins in the back are all done now in aluminum (except the tubs). The front floor is in place but needs a bit of finish welding. The front floor is actually welded to the frame. There is some finish welding left on the frame and front cage and some work for the rack and pinion conversion to be done. Then it all goes off to powdercoating and then the body will be put back on and the bodywork will start. I have to redo some of the metalwork that I farmed out before and then I have to reskin the doors and work on all of the dents and dings and weld seams. Then it's on to wiring , air bag suspension and getting a power plant picked out and installed. I may even put a temporary motor in it just to get it on the road for working out bugs. I will work out the bugs while it is on primer and then paint it after the real power plant is in.

I first have to finish the shop and I also have to work on the frame for my El Camino so I can get rolling on the bodywork for that as well. I didn't mean to hi-jack the thread, sorry.
