During the 1966 NHRA racing season two 1966 Chevrolets "owned" NHRA B/S. One was a L72 427/425 '66 Bel Air 2-dr. sedan owned/driven by Wiley Cossey. The other was a L78 396/375 SS 396 Chevelle owned/driven by Wally Booth who was the B/S national record holder. At the 1966 Winternationals Cossey's big black Bel Air won B/S and Junior Stock Eliminator with a 12.49.

As do I. Heck: an honest 14 second 100% street legal car was quite an accomplishment as well. Today: that sort of 1/4 power is the province of 4 door 'granny mobiles' i.e. Toyota Camry V6's, etc.

If you had a 12 second car, you were a world record holder...

I did pretty well with my original 65 327/300 that would consistently turn 14.3 with a non-posi rear end and a 3.56 gear!

I think the car was from NJ. I read it somewhere and can't find it now. I did find that Jere Stahl ran a white 66 Hemi Belevedere I and set the record at 11.66 that year.

Strangly there were two drivers/cars that shared the same 1966 NHRA A/S national record with a 11.66 e.t. Jere Stahl with his big white '66 Hemi Belvedere I, and this car:
http://www.quartermilestones.com/photos/raymann2/R...

Bill Jenkins raced two 1966 Nova SS L79 327/350 cars in '66. One was the red/white car in the photo and the other was all white. One of the cars was reportedly destroyed in an accident. Can't remember which.

Maybe I was wrong on Biscayne's running A Stock. Maybe they ran B as the Impalas did. Shirley Shahan
also was in the mix but she might have ran SS/A.

If you google Cordia Chevrolet it says it's still in Business in Clymer NY. That's close to Erie PA. Car must have run good to bring it all the way to Atco where your picture was taken.

Cordia Chevrolet sponsered several top-running Chevrolets in the north east including Jere Stahl's (York Pa) 1956 and 1957 record holding Chevrolets.
